The story follows Yukiteru Amano, a lonely 14-year-old boy who treats life like a reality show. Instead of interacting with people, he spends his time writing observations in his cellphone diary. His only “friends” are Deus Ex Machina, the god of time and space, and his assistant Muru-Muru—imaginary companions, or so he thought.
One day, Deus grants Yukiteru a mysterious gift: his phone becomes a “Future Diary,” capable of predicting upcoming events. But this power comes at a price. Yukiteru is thrust into a deadly survival game against 11 other diary holders.
Each one has a unique diary that reveals some aspect of the future. The last person standing will become the next god of time and space.
